One Beat, One Love: Music
What I'm gonna write on this post will mostly have nothing to do with my travel experiences. I'm writing this with a broken heart, and I believe it's not just mine, but it's all the music lover, especially those who love dance music. Tim Bergling, Swedish DJ known as Avicii, died in Oman on April 22nd 2018. The same week where Coachella, one of America biggest music festival, held its second weekend party.
Music. Can you go on a day without it? I'm not asking you people whose job includes being isolated in jungle, on the sea or wherever for a while without any way of getting the so called entertainment. I'm asking YOU people who has the access to music on whatever device you have. How long can you survive without listening to at least one song?
My daily activity will involve music, in the shower, on a drive, at work, at the gym, or while relaxing after a long day. I see music as something more than just an accessories to my day. Most of the time I feel like I can relate to those songs I like. Perhaps it was about the former lover, or family, or just how I feel in general. Those songs can bring me joy that I dance my butt off all day long, or send me to the corner of the room filled with tears. Like what my friend did with his song - YES Guapo, I'm talking about the song you made that was inspired by my failed romance (I hope you're smiling when you read this). His song perfectly describes how I feel after my last relationship falling apart. It feels like jumping out of the plane only to know that your parachute doesn't work. Guess what happened? You died in a blink of an eye, just like how our story ended.
That's exactly how I feel about Avicii's song. The lyrics are so genuine, hits you right in the heart, with a nice beat that makes you wanna dance, even if alcohol wasn't involved. It's not just some weird ass song you can't enjoy or with trashy lyrics.
"Under the tree where the grass don't grow, we made a promise to never get old
You had a chance and you took it on me, and I made a promise that I couldn't keep"
The Days - released in 2015. If you never heard of that song, go open your browser now and look it up. You'll then understand how people think that Avicii is one of the greatest DJ ever known. How genius he is making songs that can reach all type of people to listen to his song. It wasn't just about love. Avicii's song was also about family, friendship and brotherhood.
"What if I'm far from home? Oh brother I will hear you call!
What if I lose it all? Oh sister I will help you out!
Oh, if the sky comes falling down, for you
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't do"
Hey Brother. I assumed this one goes out to you people serving in the military. Telling about how brotherhood remains even after your contract is up. The bond remain strong because you too have been there, done that, and willing to risk it all to save others. Because that's how they teach you. That's how they want you to do, to look out for one and another.
It is safe to say that Avicii knows music isn't just an entertainment, it can be a healer on a rainy day. It can be your source of happiness or a reminder of the darkness. Either way, wether you're crying or bouncing up and down listening to his song, it still touch and hit you right in the feel. He might live a brief life, but I'm glad he existed, with such an incredible talent that creates wonderful songs. I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one sadden with his death. Thank you for the music and the roller-coaster ride we get from it. May you find your peace now.
This post is a tribute to you.
Rest in peace, Avicii.
Cheers,
Arlia
